Substance Related Disorders
Treatment of Substance-Related Disorders is based upon "The ASAM Criteria: Treatment Criteria for Addictive, Substance-Related, and Co-Occurring Conditions," Third Edition. The ASAM Criteria is a clinical guide to be used in matching patients to appropriate levels of care.
As The ASAM Criteria does not include Psychiatric Medical Institutes for Children (PMIC) that are designated as substance-related treatment facilities, the Iowa Plan for Behavioral Health Utilization Management Guidelines include PMIC criteria. Please return to the link Utilization Management Guidelines for PMIC criteria.
"The ASAM Criteria: Treatment Criteria for Addictive, Substance-Related, and Co-Occurring Conditions" is a proprietary document and can be ordered through ASAM at www.asam.org/PatientPlacementCriteria.html.
